A New Book Is Born

“Shot straight from the rhetorical hip of honesty and humanity, this will probably be one of the most important books published this year.”

Launch parties, book reviews, and podcasts! The past few months have been a whirlwind of book-related joy!

Of all the book-related excitement, the most thrilling moment was undoubtably the release of my second book, The Language of Evil

A few months before the official release date, there was a VIP launch at the European Speechwriter Network conference at Exeter College, Oxford. It was with the support of the European Speechwriter Network and its members that I began my speechwriting career, so it felt right to share this latest achievement with them first!

A few months later, we had the main launch event, that took place on the official release day. Emmanuel College’s Old Library, with high oak-panelled walls and imposing oil paintings, had a suitably villainous vibe to launch this book!

Since then, there have been a number of online reviews, including from the illustrious David Murray who leads the global Professional Speechwriters Association. You can read what he had to say here

There was also a write-up on the David Marx Book Reviews website that said, “Shot straight from the rhetorical hip of honesty and humanity, this will probably be one of the most important books published this year.” It makes me sound like some sort of rhetorical cowboy and I love it!

As well as this, I have been honoured to feature in a number of podcasts and webinars:

As with the birth of a second child, we must never forget the first! How to Apologise for Killing a Cat, despite being published three years ago, is still thriving! Earlier this year, I traveled to Finland for a VIP gathering of the Summer School of Rhetoric. I gave a talk to around 40 Finnish rhetoricians, each of whom received a first edition of my debut book.

I say first edition as How to Apologise for Killing a Cat is now—excitingly—in its second edition!

As well as this, the brilliant team at Canbury Press have just sold the translation rights to a Polish language publishing company!

People are already asking me if there is a third book in the pipeline. My response is usually the same… give me a break

Thank you to everyone who has supported my journey as an author so far, whether by attending events, listening to podcasts, reading blog posts, or simply being wonderfully supportive, as so many have been.
